Key Features Originally settled almost 9,000 years ago by paleoindians, the first English settlers arrived in Falmouth in the early 1600's. Its present population is over 33,000 people in an area of 44.5 square miles with a 77 mile coastline along its southern and western coasts. Eleven harbors make it a boating paradise. The educational system is excellent with a very high percentage of its graduates attending college. Included is public education from K-12, Lawrence Academy, Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable, the world famous Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and continuing education for adults of all ages. There are two hospitals and plenty of cultural and recreational activities in the area including a year round Sports Center with tennis, racketball, massage, and exercise equipment which attract residents from all the neighboring towns.
